Street View coverage line data
sv-map archives the coverage lines from Google Street View daily. This page lets you download the data and also discusses the important limitations of the data collection.
Data collection
sv-map's archive is tailored to surface substantial coverage changes to human users. To do this, it downloads Street View coverage lines as images, up to a certain zoom level. To display historical coverage differences on the website, it highlights the difference in pixels between the images of different dates. This means:
- sv-map does not have coordinate data for new coverage releases
- sv-map does not have street-level change detail
- sv-map does not have a readily available list of changes over time
- sv-map does not have any historical panorama images
- sv-map does not have any data from before the first archival date (31 January 2022)
Archival format
Coverage archives are published as PMTiles archives. PMTiles is a simple format for distributing map tiles in a single file. It's moderately well-supported in map tooling, though certainly not everywhere. The sv-map PMTiles archives all contain PNG images. Blue pixels indicate street view coverage availability, the rest of the image is transparent.
